The Power of an Accountability Partner
In my time as a strength coach, I’ve realized there is no secret exercise, recovery tool, or piece of equipment that gives everyone the results they’re looking for immediately. Bummer, right? Rather, I’ve found that the secret to achieving your fitness goals is a word that might seem obvious, but it’s easier said than done: consistency.
That’s right, what a shocking revelation - consistency is the key to achieving your goals. So that’s it, right? I should just end the blog here?
Well, no. Not exactly - finding consistency in your fitness journey is much easier said than done. Finding the discipline to peel yourself off the comfortable pillow and go out into the cold abyss that is Northwest Indiana isn’t always going to be easy. That’s why I’m writing about what I call ‘the health hack that no one talks about’ - an accountability partner.
Knowing that you have someone cheering you on, and relying on you to keep the same level of discipline they do, can work wonders for many people. It’s much easier to be consistent when you have someone holding you accountable. Think of it like your work - if you had no coworkers, no boss, and no disciplinary measures when you didn’t do your job, it would probably be much easier to slack off. In the same way, if you try to attack your fitness goals with no one keeping you accountable, it will require a much higher level of discipline.
This can look a lot of different ways. Maybe you have a friend that you meet at the gym, a significant other that work out with together, or maybe it’s as simple as a text chain with your friend to keep you accountable every day. I would encourage you to reach out to someone close to you, ask if they’ll help you, and offer to do the same for them.
Consistency is the secret sauce to accomplishing your fitness goals. Having an accountability partner will not only help you be more consistent, but you can also act as another person’s motivation when they’re going through the same struggles you are.
