Is Semi-Private Training Right For Me?
There’s a large variety of fitness studios out there, each with its own unique characteristics and nuances that draw people to them. On one end of the spectrum is large group classes where trainers are speaking over a microphone and pointing at the day’s program on the white board. On the other end of the spectrum is personal training, where you’re working 1-on-1 with a trainer. Semi-private training is a take on the traditional fitness class that many people have found to be the perfect in-between when it comes to their fitness journey, and it is my business model for here at Strength For Today.
Now I know what you might be thinking - did this guy really write a blog just to promote his business in an attempt convince me to sign up? No, that’s not why I wrote this blog. In full transparency, I actually don’t believe that semi-private training is the answer for everyone. My argument, on the other hand, is this - I think it’s vitally important for EACH INDIVIDUAL to find what works for THEM. Some people love the aspect of community, some people prefer the solitude of their garage gym. Some people are motivated by a trainer, some people would rather stick needles in their eyes than have a trainer force them to do recline rows for the seventy fifth time.
All of that being said, there are a group of people who semi-private training IS the right environment for, for a multitude of reasons. Here’s 4 of those reasons that draw people to this option and why semi-private training might be the right fit for YOU.
You want to get started on your fitness journey, but don’t know where to start and don’t want to pay the steep price tag of 1-on-1 training. You don’t have the time, nor the energy to do the research required - you just want someone to tell you what to do. Working alongside a trainer in a small group environment allows you to get the expertise of a personal trainer, without paying the steep cost required to work 1-on-1 with him/her.
You don’t always have the motivation or discipline to keep yourself accountable. It’s much harder to get your head off the warm pillow when you’re on your own - that’s just a fact of the matter. When you know there’s a trainer waiting for you on the other end of that car ride, chances are you’ll find a little more motivation to crawl out from under the blankets.
You enjoy having a sense of community. Many people workout at the same time on the same day, and as a result they become friends. Whether it’s meeting new people or bringing a friend along, certain individuals feel more motivated and thrive in those types of environments.
You want to take your fitness journey to the next level, but you’re not sure how to. This is another common theme amongst people I’ve worked with. These individuals have been going to the gym consistently for several months/years and feel stuck in a rut, as if they’re not making progress anymore. Often times, getting a fresh pair of eyes and a professional to work on their program will help them take that next step.
Again, it’s not the best fit for everyone on earth, but if that sounds like you, it might be worth a try.
